How you feel, having to pay with your taxes for the stupidity of others?
Should the American people get something back after the government used money from the peoples pocket to bail out the market?

Not great. I'd rather be paying for education, healthcare, etc.

I feel just about as good about this as the fact that I'm going to end up paying for a pointless war.

That being said, the alternative to not bailing out these too-big companies is worse. I would hope the net effect of this is to discourage having so much power and responsibility under corporate control.

LR
We've been paying taxes for stupid mistakes for years, like the war in Iraq.

Umm, you have been doing, that since the day you got your first job and started paying taxes!!

i don't like it one bit. you know the heads of those companies are going to still get big paychecks, bonuses and golden parachutes. And they will do the same thing all over again. Its like bailing your 20 something out of financial trouble, you teach them nothing but to run to mom and dad to fix the problem.

I think CEOs of the companies that we had to bail out should forfeit their bonuses to the American people since after all we are investors of their bad debt. And the former CEOs who got away with their fat severance packages should have to pay a tax penalty equal to the amount they received when they left the company.

you mean from preventing the mortgage market from drying up and totally obliterating estate equity in the process?

What do you think?

We are getting something. We will own the mortgages that we are using the money to buy. When people do pay on them, we get the money to pay back the $700 billion. It is just the loans that people don't pay back that we lose money on, and then only if they owe more than the house is worth.

I think it's total BS. Why should we bail out these big companies that knew they were way over their heads to begin with, but instead got greedier and greedier. Let them go to bankruptcy because the truth of the matter is we don't need these types of companies in business if all they do go into risky business and then expect the government to bail them out.

Don
Yep and that's what is going to happen. We are basically loaning this money. If things turn around we will get some, all or even more back in return.
