If you made over $5350 for the year and are a dependent of your parents (and at 16 you probably are) you are required to file. If you made less than that, but had anything withheld for federal income tax, you should file to get it refunded to you.

You can download form 1040EZ and its instructions at irs.gov - that will be all you need if your income is all from your job. If anything is confusing you there, post again and someone will walk you through it. It's easy enough, so you shouldn't have to pay someone to do it for you.

Depending on where you live, you might also have to file state and/or local taxes.

come on now your a bright kid. if you had a job and paid taxes of course you need to file. you never know you just might get something back. so file and see if you get something back for all your hard work. ok

The only reason that someone doesn't have to file is they made less than a certain amount. Age (either being too young or too old) doesn't come into play.

If you made over $5,350 for the entire year, you'll have to file with the IRS. If your parents can claim you (which they probably can). Otherwise if neither of your parents can claim you, you have to file if you made over $8,750. If your state has a state income tax, they will have different requirements (ex. Pennsylvania requires anyone with more than $33 in income for the year to file).

Even if you don't have to file, if they withheld federal withholding taxes from your check (not Social Security or Medicare), you are most likely entitled to that money back.

yes you do pay tax. but your parents should file the tax for you when they do their taxes. (to get your money back)
as long as your dependable you pay tax.

If you have earned anything, you should file taxes to get a refund. It does not sound like you made enough to owe anyhting so it would be in your best interest to do so. You could just file the easiest form, 1040 EZ but be sure to let your parent's know. They probably claim you as a dependent and you cannot both claim you. You will most likely get the same amount back whether you claim yourself or not so it is more valuable to them to do so.

Hope this helps, BTW, I LOVE getting best answers.

file your taxes like your life depends on it!

If they withheld taxes, in all likelyhood, you will want to file to get your taxes refunded. But as a gereral rule, at your wages, you shouldn't have to pay taxes.
