As long as your total income for the year is less than the federal basic personal amount, then you will not have to pay tax on it. If you did pay tax then you will get all of it back. for the year 2007 the basic personal tax amount is $8,553. |

On $3,000 you would have had $43.50 in Medicare taxes taken out and $186 in FICA. These taxes are not part of the analysis because everybody pays these taxes on earned income (I'm simplifying to make live easier.)
It depends on which state you live in and what other income you had (interest on a savings account or CD, or dividends on stocks or mutual funds).
As your parents to check with whomever does their taxes. If they do their own, have them plug your numbers into the program and see what happens. |

File your income tax and you will know. |

Yes you will. Even if your parent claims you your standard deduction would be 3300 if your total income was 3000 so you have zero tax liability. |

You need to file your return and find out. You might get some back you might not...but you are required by law to file. |

Probably all of it, except the $230 taken out for social security and medicare taxes. |

Yes.
Your income was 3000, your standard deduction was 5350, so you would get back EVERY cent you paid in as a refund.
File a 1040EZ, you can also file at the IRS website, check into "Free File". |

Get a form 1040-EZ, plug in your numbers, and you'll find out. It should take about 10 minutes. Or if you really don't trust your ability to read directions and do basic math, then go to one of the online sites and plug in your numbers and they'll do the math for you.
You will need to check with your parents to see if they're claiming you as a dependent. (You still have to file a return, it's just that you won't be able to claim an exemption for yourself if they're claiming you.) |
