I'm a full-time student (and still a dependent of my parents) w/ a part-time job. Should I file a tax return?
I work as a walk-on coach at a high school and a junior high school. I get paid through the district so taxes are automatically taken out of my paychecks. Should I file? If so, how do I do it? I've never done this before so please help! Thanks!

If you earned over $3,000, you MUST file a return. Besides, that's the only way you can possibly get a refund on the over paid withholding.

Don't claim yourself - the deduction means much more to your parents who are supporting you.

If you are nervous, buy Turbo tax or some other program. If you only have a W-2 it will be really easy. DON'T use H&R Block. They are expensive and incompetent!

It is very likely that you would have a refund if your were to file a 1040EZ return. If your total income is less than $5,350 every thing that they may have withheld from your pay would be refunded.

Your boss should know but I think if you are legally employed, you have to file your taxes (by april 15th).

Yes, file taxes. You'll get back all the state and federal taxes you paid out, assuming you didn't make a lot. If you made at least $3,000.00 this year. you'll get the extra rebate from the feds this year. I think it would be $300.00 for you. Anything free is nice.

Did you make more than 3,000 dollars this past year, if so then yes.

If you don't normally file a return, this year you want to because of the Economic Stimulus package. Also, speak to your parents ahead of time, because if you're a dependent on their return, you may not be able to legally file. But you better hurry up, there's only 15 more days to file! Good luck!

It doesn't matter you still have to file a tax return. Also, tell your parents you want to file as independent you'll get more money back in your refund, and you can still use their address.
Oh and as for you others it doesn't matter if he made more than 3,000 or if he is a dependent he still HAS TO FILE. It's the law.

jameslankford
if you are a dependant you can't file
