Your taxable income determines whether you have to pay or not- I know many hard working students who are putting themselves through school who have to file and pay taxes.
Now, you mention that you are a student in the US. Does this mean you are an alien student? If so you might want to check on tax treaty that might preclude you from having to file or pay. Just a thought.
Good luck and keep studying.

Regardless of whether you are student or not, if you work and your income is reported by your employer you will be taxed. You may be exempt from paying the tax or may even receive a refund for over-tax payment, but you will not find that our unless you file your taxes. Every US citizen and resident is suppose to file a tax return. The only way you can get around filing a tax return is if someone can claim you as their dependent.
