I'm getting married in March - would it be best to wait and file as a married couple or just file seperately?
Since you're filing for the 2007 tax year and you weren't married in 2007, you'll need to file as Single for that year.
Good news for 2008, though. Next year, you can file as Married Filing Jointly for the entire year, no matter when you were married.
The benefits are that your income ceilings rise dramatically when you're married filing jointly before higher taxes kick in and before exemptions and credits begin to phase out.
RedSoxRock!!!
You have to have been married in 2007 to file as a married coupl so go ahead and file now next year you can file jointly
Emmy
You can't file as a married couple.
You weren't married in 2007, you are filing taxes for last year.
Not this year.
Next year you can file jointly.
whitney
your filing status is based on your status the last day of 2007. so you cant file jointly
Judy1
Your status as of 12/31/07, not as of the date you file your return, determines whether you file as married or single. So you will file single for 2007, then as married for your 2008 return.
Shauna
You cant file as married until tax season next year anyone filing taxes now is for the 2007 season!!!
wizjp
