I'm going to start a new job, can you work out how much tax I'll pay from these details...?
I'm going to start a new job. My last P45's tax code is 522L. Does this mean that I won't be taxed at all for up to £5220 I make in my new job? Will they not charge me anything then for the beginning of my work there?

Was the P45 from the previous tax year?If so, it will now go up to 605L making the first 6039 tax free and the rest taxed at 20%. You have half of these tax free allowances unused at present, so you wont pay tax until your earnings exceed about £3000.

trevor s
take your tax code add a zero in your case +£5220 divide by 52 that is the amount you can earn each week tax free, you will pay standard rate income tax on any amount over that figure

There's a good tax and NI calculator here

http://www.listentotaxman.com/

which should help you

Here there and everywhere
While you won't pay tax on the part up to £5220, you will pay some of the national insurance on the first £5220. The tax man also assumes that you be earning the same amount each month through the year and evens out the tax burden through the year, so you pay almost the same amount of tax each month.

Yes they will tax you. because your salary is going to be more than £5520 in the tax year. So they will tax you straight away.

visit www.direct.gov.uk you should find your answer ! good luck with both.

jewelking_2000
The second answer is technically wrong. They split the allowance over the year so you will get 100 pw on which you only pay ni and you will pay tax on the balance over 100 pw. If you haven't worked this tax year you will not pay tax until you have caught up on your tax allowance.

Mr. Trend Vampire
you get no taxe on the first 5K then 22% when u earn more then 40k it 40%
