I've already filed my taxes with checkstub and not I got my w-2 and I filed them wrong. Help please.?
While I don't know why it's different, I thought my wages by looking on my check stub were about 3,000 more than what my w-2 I just got says. I should have waited for my w-2 but didn't because I heard you can file using your last check stub. I used turbotax and already e-filed...I just got my w-2 today. When I seen the difference I went back in and put the number I have now in and I should be getting back almost 1,000 dollars MORE. Help how can I fix this and get the rest of my refund?

You are going to have to file an amended return. The correct form for this is 1040X

When you go to TurboTax, there is an option for filing an amended return. Let the program pull in your original return and then tell it which figures were incorrect.

You will also have to fill in an explanation for why your first return was incorrect and needed to be amended. I believe you will have to mail in this form instead of e-filing so it will take a little longer. Amended returns go through a different process at the IRS.

In the future, wait for your W-2. Your check stub can have variances from your W-2. I work in payroll and there are tons of corrections we have to make in our accounting year end which can cause a W2 to be different from the last check stub.

You can file an amended return. Visit the IRS website for instructions at this address:

You are going to have to file an amended return, federal form 1040X. There should be a corresponding state form for the state you live in.

He is a link to the form and instructions.

You can still amend your return- it just happens to be a different form. It's always better to just wait until you get your W-2 form before filing.

That's why you are not supposed to file from a checkstub, and are supposed to wait for your W-2.

You'll have to file an amended return. Wait until this return has been processed and you get your refund from the original return, or at least wait a couple weeks, before filing the amended return.

You will have to wait thirty days then file an amended return, Form 1040X. The repayment can take up to twelve weeks because original returns get priority.

May I suggest taking the original return to a tax professional? Amended returns can be a bit confusing if you have never done one.

You'll need to file an ammended return using Form 1040X. Turbo Tax should be able to do that for you.

JUST AMEND YOUR RETURN, FILE FORM 1040X AND DO THE SAME FOR STATE RETURN but make sure original is processed.

basically an amended return has 2 lines one has original numbers filed and the other has changes in this case your w2 wages and withholding changes, dont forget to explain why amending, this will simplify the process...

not sure if you can do with turbotax..call intuit the maker of the program theyll help

Check the IRS website to see if it has been accepted yet. If it has, file an amendment to your return. You should have been a little more patient.
