I've been made redundant and I might be pregnant - would this change my package? Am I entitled to more?
I'm due to leave the firm 30th August, and have agreed a package. I've been at the firm for just under 2 years. Does the company have any duty to pay me anything if I'm pregnant and still employed by them? Any help or direction towards helpful websites HUGELY appreciated. Thanks.

Its very unlikely that you would be able to. I am assuming that you are in the UK? It would be a completely different situation if you had informed them you were pregnant & then were selected for redundancy, but as you are saying you "might" be pregnant thats obviously not the case. At the moment if you are pregnant the only thing that your company must do before you leave is to give you any time off for antenatal appointments & do a risk assessment.

I am assuming that you are concerned about working for a new company & then taking maternity leave. In order to receive the statutory maternity pay from a company you will need to have worked for them continuously for 26 weeks by the 15th week before you are due to give birth. If you haven't been at the company long enough to receive maternity pay from them you are still able to claim Maternity Allowance - which you do through the jobcentre. This is based on your tax/NI contributions for the 15 months (I think) before you begin your claim - so given that you worked for your current company for just under 2 years you should qualify.

I can't think of any specific websites you could look at right now, aside from maybe ACAS. Your best idea would be to search something like "pregnancy & redundancy" on google & see what comes up.

If you are based in the UK, then unfortunately your firm DO NOT have to give you a redundancy payment. You have to have had a minimum of 2 years employment, which you say you don't have in your question.

They may make a voluntary payment however, but the fact that you may be pregnant makes absolutely no difference to how much you would get.

I was made redundant when I was pregnant 13 yrs ago & because I worked for a decent company I still recieved my full entitlement of maternity pay from them, 90% of wage & full redundancy payments but I had worked for over 2 yrs for this company.

Think you have to worked 2 yrs before any entitlement, best getting in touch with CAB they'll be able to tell you exactly what entitled to.

As well as the other answers, there is a difference between "might be pregnent" and "definitely am pregnant".

Pleasant Peter Perkins
You are entitled to a redundancy payment because you have been employed in excess of 1 year. Unfortunately you do not attract any additional payment because you are pregnant as redundancy is purely a matter of lawfully ending your contract of employment and does not consider any personal circumstances.

eriverpipe
Absolutely not. You have agreed a package and that's what you'll be getting. What exactly would you like? Forward dated maternity leave/pay? Pregnant women employed by a company get no benefit other than maternity rights when they actually suffer sprog drop. So if you are leaving the fimr prior to any such entitlement you don't get anything extra and why should you?

NO, I've never heard of that. Why would that pay you for being pregnant? Is the world running out of babies? Are they a breeding farm who will take your baby and raise it in a test tube environment and pay you for your embryo?
