You are married now so Single is NOT an option.

Your choices are Married Filing Jointly or Married Filing Separately. You'll almost always pay less tax on a joint return. And you can file jointly even if only one of you had income.

Spock (rhp)
married filing jointly, or married filing separately are your only choices.

Your choices are married filing jointly or married filing separately (single is not a choice). The only way to know for sure which married status is better is to try both, but jointly almost always is better.

You file jointly even if only one of you had an income. You'll get better deductions that way.

Your status at midnight on the 31st of December is your status for the entire years as far as the IRS is concerned. You can file as married, filing joint; married, filing seperate; or if you did not live under the same roof with your husband for the last six months of the year and have dependent children to claim you can file as Head of Household. See how simple it is? (Sarcasm, there)

If you're married, of course you file married! Am I not understanding this? His income doesn't matter.

ask H&R Block to do the numbers for you in their computer tax return software. they can give you exact amount. i'm not sure on this but you may be able claim the the nonworking husband as a dependent. its usually just kids or older parents that you support financially but rules change and H&R Block is supposed to stay up on those rules so ask.

Look at the 1040 form,it should tell you the advantage or the disadvantage of filing Single or jointly. Also call the IRS,they have a 800 number you can call.It should be on the 1040 form.
