If you are behind on your child support, federal law does permit any refund you have coming to be redirected to child support that is in arrears.

Not federal refund. They only keep the fed refund for tax leins and student loans.

However, you should be willing to pay the 300 from your refund for your kid in my opinion.

Yes, probably.

The states and the feds have a recriprocal agreement about state debts, and unless it didn't get reported "on time," the feds will minus $300 from your refund. Or the state. Or, sometimes, both (then you get one of them back).

i thought this was a state issue. i know i got my federal return but the state sucked up my state return to pay the county.

no,you have to owe at least 500.00.but you should just pay it because you're going to wind up owing interst if you don't pay now.
