I am 19, live at home , work part time and go to college.?
I filed a tax return to receive the federal tax that was with held from my wages last year. However, my mother carried me on her return as her dependent. Will I get money from the stimulus package the government is talking about?
Additional Details
The tax advisor said I could file to recoup the money that was with held from my pay check, and I did not claim myself as dependent so my mother could . My income was low.

If you are claimed as a dependent, you will be ineligible for the rebate, but you may still benefit under the plan.

While the rebate depends on your 2007 status and income, it is actually a rebate toward your 2008 taxes. According to the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, taxes would be cut in 2008 from 10 percent to zero percent on the first $6,000 dollars of taxable income for individual taxpayers.

So if you have taxable income in 2008, you will see a tax cut when you file in 2009.

No, a dependent isn't eligible for the stimulus check.

If your income was very low, you might not have been eligible even if you were not a dependent.

Audrey A
Since you were claimed as a dependent you won't get the stimulus package. And since you are over the age of 17, your mother won't get the extra $300 for you either. Sorry.

Hmmm...that is tricky. I am exactly in the same situation as you, 19, lives at home, work part time and go to college, but my parents couldn't claim me as a dependent since my income was over $8000. I think you might but there's a chance that you won't either. There's a link where you can find that out for sure. Good luck!

c murk
No, but she will get money from the stimulus package for you being her dependant.

Randall Parker, MBA
Your mother will get the stimulus money, since you were her dependent. Tell her to buy you something nice.

$300 could buy a lot of pizza. :-)

Hokie_Pokey
That's tricky.

If your mother claimed you as an dependent then technically you shouldn't have filed. You can't be a dependent on someone elses tax return and you file a return. It's either/or.
