If you have income only from Salary then ITR - 1 but since you are claiming interest on your housing loan it is to be shown as loss under the heat Income from House Property and to be adjusted against your salary income. Therefore you are required to use ITR - 2. The Allahabad High Court has just delivered the judgement that the return can also be filed in Saral Form but since ITR - 2 is available it should be filed in ITR 2.

If you want to claim Housing Loan Interest deduction, you need to fill in ITR 2

If in your form No.16, your drawing and disbursing officer has already considered the interest and principle portion of your housing loan, then automatically your income would have been reduced. In that case, you can file your return in ITR-1 straitaway. If not, you have claim it separately in ITR02. However, the last date of filing return has already expired(31-07-07). Your return will be belated return. Hurry up.
