The rule of thumb that I use is I allot 23.5% for taxes our of every paycheck. Now, I claim married with 1 deduction on my W4. I am usually within a few dollars of being correct on every paycheck. If you were to assume that you get all 40,000 up front then you would bring home for the year approximately $30,600, with the government taking $9,400 for taxes. If you are a single person with no children then the amount of taxes taken out may be a little higher than what they take from me. |

$1.50. If your lucky (j/k). The irs website www.irs.gov has many tools I think you will find to be helpful. Keep in mind that your status ( single, married, kids, no kids) will be a major factor in how much you will have in the end. If you have any retirement plans ( 401K, Ira's, etc.), that could affect your tax bracket as well. |
