I am married but didn't work in 2006 can my husband and I still file married filing jointly?
I want to know this because of the standard deduction which is higher for the married filing jointly tax.
Even if you do work you have to make a certain amount of money before you even have to claim your income if filing with your spouse. I am married and most of the time I don't work, sometimes I do and sometimes I don't make enough to even claim. You can file as married filing jointly even if you don't work but you should talk to a tax person at like H&RBlock to find out what the laws are in your area about how much you need to make to claim it as income.

Yes you can still file a married joint return with your husband even if you hadn't worked during that tax year. My husband and I have been married for 9 years and have filed in that fashion for 7 of those 9 years bothing filing online and with a tax preparation professional.

yes you can or he can also file head of household, but usually filing married jointly offers more advantageous tax advantages especially if you are using the 1040A.

yes.

We file jointly even though I'm a stay-at-home mom. That's how our accountant does it, and he's never steered us wrong. Good luck - I hope you get a big fat refund!!

Yes, I am a stay at home mom, and we always file that way. More money.
