I am trying to find a place of employment on my ex husband, we owe the IRS and he is not filing his taxes.?

You can contact the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and let them know the situation. If you are not due to owe these taxes and he is, you will have to fill out an injured spouse form so you will not be liable to pay any of these taxes.

You could hire a detective's services to locate him. Even then, how are you going to make him start filing? He most likely doesn't have a job or the IRS would know where he was working because his employer would turn in a W2 on wages paid. Either that, or he's doing odd jobs for cash.

If the two of you really owed the tax liability in the past, then you are not an "innocent spouse" nor are you an "injured spouse". You just have to pay the bill unless you can somehow locate and FORCE your ex to go back to work and start helping you pay the tax liability.

I'm not sure how successful you are going to be with that.

Doctor Deth
what do you mean "we" owe taxes - if you're not together, you should be filing your own single/HOH or married separate tax return that would have nothing to do with him

if he is your ex, why are you still filing together? If its back taxes from when you were married, its based on where he was employed at that time, not now.

Let me guess. You previously filed a joint return with him, the joint return shows a tax bill (that belongs to both of you), but if you are the only one who files, it's your refund that is reducing the balance owed, not his. And you figure that *if* he filed, his refund would also reduce the total and you'd get out of this mess sooner....

While the IRS may eventually file a tax return for him, all data on him--job, income, filing history--is private and will not be release to you.

I don't get the question. If he is your "ex" why do you care if he files or not? If you were divorced during the year of 2007, file your current status and your own taxes his have nothing to do with you.

If you are still married to this obvious looser, your going to have to file married filing separately. You cannot take care of his problem, even though I realize it is affecting you.

Good luck.

VB's answer is correct. The IRS is bound by confidentiality laws, and cannot give you information about your ex. Neither, of course, can they give information about you to him.
