It isn't that you made too much money, it is that you did not have enough withheld or, if you are self employed, you didn't make sufficient payments during the year when you estimated your tax. Oh, and by the way, the government does suck. |

Well, I think it's more that you didn't pay enough in taxes during the year than you make too much money.
To avoid this happening again, adjust your deductions or have your employer take more money out of your paycheck each week towards Federal Taxes. |

Why are you looking at it as a penalty? Shouldn't this be a good thing that you are doing well and that the USA allows this to happen? Just pay your taxes and quit your crying. Count your blessings. My husband and I do well also. We usually get money back though but we live in a very expensive state. I like the fact that people in my state receive a pretty great education, especially when compared to others.
It is not meant to be a penalty. It's to pay for services that we all may need and so we can live in a civilized community. Everything costs money. If you are able to make a decent living and have the things that you need/want then what is the big deal? I guess I just see paying taxes differently than you do.
Edit: I am frustrated with the waste and corruption as well.
I don't like the people that sit home and do nothing. But they aren't the problem. They are easy to blame but they don't actually require that much. Look at other areas for the big problems (corporate greed and waste: equally as bad as government greed and waste). |

Maybe because you're not using legitimate tax minimization strategies. Quit bellyaching about making too much money and use your head. Like putting money in your 401ks, claiming 0 on W-4s, buying a condo, opening IRAs, making charitable donations. Instead of just spending all your money, save for your retirement by funding IRAs, 401ks, and reduce your taxable income. |

Be sure to NOT vote Democratic or you will be paying even more. |

Don't complain too loud about what we are paying in taxes. The USA has the lowest overall tax burden of any western industrialized nation. This link is a bit out of date but should still be on the mark. |

somebodys got to pay taxes -- the rich and corporations dont pay taxes thanks to the current government -- so that leaves you to do it.
you can thank them for it in 2008 and vote. |

because the goverment doesnt like the fact that you didnt pay them enough money during the year and now you have to give them their money now so they penalize you for owing. its their rule , go fugure. just from now on either have more taxes witheld or pay estimated taxes. and you wont be penalized for owing.
i do taxes. |

Your the problem with this country. Greed Greed Greed, Me Me Me, thats all anyone thinks. You should feel blessed to have a good paying job, and stop bitching at the country that gave it to you. Move to France or Canada where taxes are over 50% of income. I hope you lose your jobs and have to work in Fast food, see if you like that better. You won't have to pay at the end of the year. |

What is your witholding at work? If it's 0 change it to 1 and you probably won't owe at the end. 0 gets you a little more on each paycheck, but 1 will get you a refund! Usually |

Buy a bigger house, have some kids and pay off your dept and you might not have to pay next year. Taxes are a game you have to play. Adjust your with holding for next year and see what happens. |

You wouldn't owe in the first place if you didn't earn a lot of money. Gotta take the good with the bad. Time to pay the piper. |

Somebody has to pay for the war in the Iraq that the Republicans started. You make the most; you pay the most. |

Yep, it sucks. We are having the same problem.
Hell, they already take about 33% and we're paying for all of the ones that wanna sit on their butt and not work. I'm in TX and a lot can't speak english and have 5 kids, and we're paying for that sh*t. We pay all of those taxes each 2 weeks and STILL owe the gov't.
???????? I don't get it ?????? |

The marriage penalty does suck. You're right!
I almost didn't get married because of all the additional taxes I knew I'd have to pay. |
