I did not get 1200 dollars on my tax stimulas check and i'm married. total we made 29,000. did they mess up?

Queendee
no each of you should have gotten $300

here's a quick breakdown for anyone who is confused:
each adult (not claimed as a dependent), if you made over $3,000 you should get $300

if your tax liability is less then $600 single or less then $1,200 married your rebate is $300 (form 1040 net income tax liability is the amount shown on Line 57, plus the amount on Line 52)

this usually means each person made about $30,000 in 2007 (the two incomes combined do not entitle you to the max rebate)

for each child born after Dec. 31, 1990 you should get $300 but the amount of dependents varies and could be anything up to $300

everyone is not entitled to the max rebate so just because there are higher rebates does not mean you qualified

as of yet i haven't heard about anyone getting an incorrect rebate amount. the amount you received is more then likely what you were entitled to. who ever told you that you were getting more mis-informed you

Marmib
i think they kept saying people can get UP TO 1200 per couple.....not necessarily 1200. i don't know tho.

bouiver
it depends on dependents and who works everyone needs to have a job to get 1200 good luck

What was your tax liability - the amount they KEPT after your refund? If that was $1200 or more, then you'd be eligible for $1200. If it was less, then you'd get a refund of whatever you paid, with a minimum of $600 for the two of you filing a joint return. There was never anything that said that all married couples would get $1200 - that's the MOST you can get. If you paid more than that in tax, you only get $1200 - if you paid less than that, then you get everything back, and if you paid under $600 you get an even better break and get MORE back than you paid in.

As a married couple with no children, you'd generally need to have an AGI of greater than $29,500 to receive the full $1,200 base rebate. How much DID you receive?

pancakes & hyrup
They pro-rate it, according to your income and how much you paid in last year....that's what I was told after the fact. I know I know, we all think we should have gotten the max. I am married w/ 1 child, I should have gotten 1500 according to the paper they sent me, I see no reason why I should not have gotten 1500, yet only 1143 was deposited. I thought perhaps they take taxes out automatically, but some friends of mine who are married got 1200 even.....so I am clueless too. Well, we should learn a lesson, let's not be unthankful for what we *did* get from the government.

Probably not... you may have owed taxes and not known it or owed the federal government in some other way.

My husband had a bill from the VA hospital that we could not afford to pay. It was a balance of $1000. I have been asking for a waiver forever... giving them all of our financials (bank statments, paystubs, etc.). Well... this morning I checked our account because I knew we'd get the stimulus check... and we only got about $780... they took out the $1000 that we owed for his hospital stay. We should have gotten $1800 though... we're married and have 2 children.

You probably did not make enough for the maximum of $1200. $1200 was never advertised as a flat automatic payment for those married and filing jointly. It was advertised as UP TO $1200.

how long were you married for? just asking because if you just got married than you will not get that money..if you both filed together from last years tax return than yes you are entitled to the other. wait a minute it is only 600.00 per couple and 300.00 for each qualifying child....now I am confused...

The only people getting stimulus checks now are those that filed with direct deposit to their accounts. Everyone else will receive there "actual" checks over the next couple months based on the last 2 digits of their SSN.

mudbug
Look on line 44 of your 1040. If the Tax owed listed there is less than $1,200 you did not qualify for the Maximum amount.

you should get it.

you and your spouse combined will receive one check of 1200, or if you filed separately you will each get 600.

you do not each get 1200.

Why do you think you should be getting back $1,200? I thought the max was $600.00 per person, for the stimulus check.

How much ARE you getting back?
