Shortcake | I didn't say that I have not been or do not plan to pay my taxes owed from 2005? |
I certainly do and have been paying since 2005, however, since I am on a repayment plan, why should I be further penalized by having the stimulus check applied to that balance as well. I feel like I should be allowed to continue on the plan as outlined and still recieve my check. I don't think that is unfair to either party. Additional Details As if they don't have enough money already and need mine ASAP! Like their accounts will go into the negative if they don't apply my little stimulus check to my debt owed rathern letting me stay on my payment plan. That is just plain old selfish greed on their part. But, as the saying goes, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. |

Just look at it as less money that you have to pay DIRECTLY out of pocket for now. |

Your installment plan is not the same as, let's say, a loan payment on a car.
You are already in default with the IRS. They only accepted the installment plan because they believed you did not have the ability to pay the taxes you owed...consider it an act of desperation on their part, while being nice to you at the same time.
There is a rebate coming your way, and you do have the ability to pay that amount. Because the IRS is going to take it. |

Well if YOU were owed the money, you would want it NOW, regardless of a payment plan! Why should they give you more money, when you already owe them? Sounds perfectly fair to me!!! I think you should consider yourself lucky that they are giving out the money and helping you get out of debt with them!!! What's unfair is for you to be behind on your taxes in the first place!!! |

You don't really have a choice in the matter since it's their money (the governments) in the first place.
Just be glad it's not child support money, then that money would go to you know who.
You would be really mad then, your ex getting all that money that you think is yours. |

So they should give you money, when you owe them money...come on now, you are not being penalized... |

The IRS wants their money. |

i know the feeling. they took mine to pay my student loans even tho i had a payment plan i was sticking to. Gotta love the government. |

I know how you feel... I've been on their repayment plan for a while, and have it down to under $2k but they kept all of my return for this year and will keep my stimulus check also. I don't call them any longer either, they always make me feel like I'm lower than dirt when I talk to their reps...
MommaF brought up a good point, taxes were always supposed to have been voluntary, not manditory, it really isn't our fault that the government has bastardized that idea. Also, once you go on a payment plan they should stop adding at least the penalties (and the interest from my point of view)... |

That's just the way it is. The government takes their money first. If anyone owes back taxes, even if they're on a payment plan, or if they owe child support that's in arrears, or have a student loan in default, the debt will be deducted from the rebate payment. You'll get the balance if your rebate is for more than your debt. |

I would like to point out to everyone that the IRS stimulus checks are not "free" money or even money that we did not earn. Anyone who "owes" money to the government under this current system...aka all of us, you have a genuine argument for not paying. Please learn your rights! The IRS and income tax in general are illegal and were brought into existence to help finance a war effort. The Constitution was even ratified to make this possible! The money does not belong to the government, it belongs to the people who work for and earn it! If you're tired of the government stealing from you, do something about it!
Here's a good one. Do you have any idea where we got the billions of dollars needed to send out these stimulus payments? Insteading of just printing the money like we usually do, we asked our good friends China and Saudi Arabia. Ponder that one for a while. |
