I don't have federal taxes being taken out of my check? Why?
I started this job about 6 months ago, and have noticed that federal taxes arent coming out of my check. What am I doing wrong? I filled out my paperwork as married, claiming 4. Myself and my 3 kids.
Should I change that to just my kids? My husband might have his paperwork at his job done the same way. What effect does that have, if any? Thanks.

yes medicare and state are being withheld. I did file my taxes and my W2 for this job did not have federal listed on it either.

Did you follow all the instructions on the worksheet? There are particular suggestions about what to do if you have a spouse who also works.

Typically, the spouse that makes more money should claim the exemptions for the kids at least.

There's no "right" answer, but my suggestion would be for you to immediately fill out a new W4 and claim either zero or one, not four.

Talk to your employer about it. The are required under Federal law to withhold taxes and submit quarterly payments to the government. They are required to withhold (and submit payments for) federal, social security, and medicare. If they're not doing this, they could get into a ton of trouble.

reduce number of children you are claiming to 2 and you probably will have some taken out then but if you feel you will not have to pay when you file why give them your money interest free for a year?

Check with your HR dept. They probably made an error that isn't your fault.

You can change your withholding - its up to you.

you should consult an accountant, your emplyer whos in charge of it, or the IRS, I would not procrastinate on this one

If Social Security and Medicare are being withheld, the employer is following instructions OK. You don't state what you are earning. A married person with four exemptions will not have any income tax withheld until they get to $450 per week.

The number of deductions (4) you claim may tell the government that, based on your salary (no other income, like your husbands) you don't earn enough to be taxed.

If you think your total income will result in you paying taxes go back and fill out another W2 form and there is a spot for "additional $$ to withhold per check"
