The IRS also has a copy of your W-2. When an employer files your W-2 to you by January 31st, they also send a copy of it and the other employees to the IRS with a Form W-3 by February 28th that sums the W-2s. IRS # 800-829-1040, but you will be on hold listening to the same 3 songs for a long time. But you need to do it. If you can't get the info in time for some reason, you will need to file Form 4868, and extension to file your taxes. |

they have to give you a w-2 - you should have received it at the beginning of February. Ask your payroll dept for a copy or you manager for who you have to talk to- Did you move and not give work your new address? they don;t forward w-2's. |

Ah no. Not okay talk to your employer they should have given you one. If they didn't and you can't find it they can reissue you one. Do not guess your information. |

The Agency is required to provide you with the W2. Call them. If you are not an actual employee, the money should still be reported somehow. |

no, your employer is required to give you a w-2 form by the end of January. If you haven't received it, talk to the head of Payroll or HR for your department |

Whoever is thumbing down the correct answers being given, thumbs away. :)
Don't guess! File an extension on form 4868. Ask your employer for another copy. It can't be that difficult to climb the chain of command to figure this out.
W2's are sent to Social Security Administration...eventually the data winds it's way to the IRS, and they can provide the information to you (not a copy of the W2) to you on a tax transcript. |

No, you can not guess! |

No. You have to send your W2 in when you file your return. Ask your direct supervisor where to get a W2, and he should be able to help you. |

No, definitely not OK to guess. Ask your manager to provide you with a copy. |

Did you get your W-2? Are you still working at the same place, ask you supervisor how to obtain the W2.
Here is some info from IRS website:
These documents are essential to filling out most individual tax returns. You should receive a Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement, from each of your employers each year. Employers have until January 31, 2008 to provide or send you a 2007 W-2 earnings statement either electronically or in paper form. You should allow two weeks to receive your W-2 from employers who send them by mail.
If you do not receive your Form W-2, contact your employer to inquire if and when the W-2 was mailed. If it was mailed, it may have been returned to your employer because of an incorrect or incomplete address. After contacting your employer, allow a reasonable amount of time for your employer to resend or to issue the W-2.
If you still do not receive your W-2 by February 15th, contact the IRS for assistance at 800-829-1040. When you call, have the following information:
Employer's name, address, city, and state, including zip code.
Your name, address, city and state, including zip code, and Social Security number, and
An estimate of the wages you earned, the federal income tax withheld, and the period you worked for that employer. The estimate should be based on year-to-date information from your final pay stub or leave-and-earnings statement, if possible. |

Perhaps you could overestimate your tax payment and amend it with 1040X later in the year? |
