I just think it makes more sense. People should be able to keep 100% of their pay check. We should replace the IRS with the Fair Tax.

bluelotussmellslikeb... | I don't want to pay taxes anymore!! Isn't there some kind? |
of form I can sign whereby I am released from doing so? I want to designate what I am willing to contribute to. 2% here, 2% there, etc. But I am not willing to pay my taxes blind folded throwing a weighted dart at a weight balloon. Years ago there was some kind of organization that did do this kind of stuff. You did have to give up some rights such as entitlement benefits, possibly vote, etc. What's the difference? Paying taxes is a privilege from what I recall or maybe it was a civic duty and not a requirement. [Like Jury Duty.] Additional Details I tried to post this question in Politics and the question was deleted.... How interesting. |

You wish! The only way you can stop paying income taxes completely is to limit yourself to less income than the filing requirement amount ($8,950 for 2008). And to avoid FICA and Medicare taxes, keep it as unearned income only. At current interest rates, you'd need about $180,000 in capital to do that. You won't survive for long on $8,950 per year so you'll chew through that nest-egg pretty quickly, probably in 5 to 10 years at most.
Whether you're "willing" or not is irrelevant. The law says that you must so you don't get a bye by filing a silly form. Contrary to what a few crackpot tax protesters would have you believe, paying income taxes is NOT optional.
And moving to a foreign country won't help much either as US citizens are subject to US tax law on their world-wide income. Even surrendering your citizenship won't get you off the hook since if the IRS thinks that it's a tax dodge, they can continue to levy US taxes for 10 years after you give up your citizenship. And don't forget that the only countries with lower total taxes than in the US are third-world nations for the most part. Monaco doesn't have any taxes to speak of, but you'd need at least $20 million in liquid assets before they'd welcome you as a citizen. And $20 million in Monaco puts you at the bottom of the food chain.
I'd guess that the question was deleted from Politics as it was off-topic. |

Nobody wants to pay taxes, but refusing to do so is illegal. It's not a privilege, it's a law, and if you don't do it you can go to jail. There are organizations that try to fight it, but in the courts they have lost case after case. Sorry, none of us want to pay taxes, but it's just part of living in the USA. |

Uh, no, no way to do that in the US. And you are mistaken that there used to be an organization for doing so.
You could try to find some other country more to your liking, and see if they'll let you move there. But realize that many countries have taxes a lot higher than the US. |

Yup, I am a fellow Oregonian, The fact that they have no sales tax is a great help.. We have been in Arkansas for the last two years on Business and the Taxes here are HORRIBLE!!.. I figured out that the amount of money we pay in sales tax just on my monthly grocery bill , amounts to over 2 months worth of groceries a year.. This such a poor state to begin with,So they tax the people even more..We will be so glad to return HOME to Oregon. |

You could always move to a state that doesn't charge taxes... Like Oregon. This won't get you around some taxes, but the cash you save in a year from your purchases will pay any taxes you incur. |

You would have to go "off the grid" if you wanted to remain in the USA and find a job that pays you under the table.
Otherwise, you would need to work in a foreign country to avoid paying US taxes. You would need to work abroad for more than 6 years out of the month, however, state and local will get you in other ways. |
