I filed my 2007 return already, but I just found another W-2 I forgot about, can I still file it?

Additional Details
I know there is a penalty charge but I don't want to owe anything next year for not filing this one

Eccentric Me
You'll need to file a form 1040X. It will show the amounts you filed with on your original return, the amounts with the new W2, and the difference between the two.

The penalty amount won't be very much; if the new W2 turns out to reduce the amount of tax you should have owed, there won't even be a penalty, and you'll get the extra refund.

Best of luck, and good for you for staying in compliance with the law.

the IRS doesn't forget anything including the copy they have of all of your W-2s

debsstuff
Better file. Its gonna cost either way. IRS has already got the W-2 they need and within 2 years they will be contacting you about it.

Cactus Flower
You would need to find an amendment.

You not only can, but are required to. You'll file a form 1040X amended return. If you owe more tax because of it, there will be a penalty, otherwise not.

Yes, you can still file it. And you should. You would just file an amendment. It doesn't mean that you will owe or have to pay a penalty. Since you forgot about the W2, I would guess that it isn't for for very much, so it shouldn't change your tax bracket. You may even get a couple of extra dollars back.

You can now file an amended tax return using Form 1040X. IRS takes 12 weeks to process amended tax returns and if you are due a refund it will be mailed to you.

Eddie
nope. penalty for you if you do.
like #1 said, just fogeh ta bout it
