If your return is accepted by the IRS by Thursday, your refund is processed on Friday of the following week. The IRS began accepting returns on Friday, January 12. If your return was accepted by the IRS on that day, your refund will be processed Friday, Jan 26. The IRS website has a 'Where's My Refund' link on the front page. That is the best place to find out if your return has been processed. |

If you filed on January 6th, I assume that this means you filed a paper return? The IRS did not start to accept electronic filing until January 12.
If you filed a paper return, you will have to wait 4 weeks for your refund (assuming that you opted for direct deposit). If you filed electronically, you will have to wait 2 weeks. |

You can't do anything at this point, except wait. It takes time for your refund to be processed, and the IRS doesn't want to hear from you for at least 4 weeks. But after that, you can track the status of your refund on line here:

Yes, even though you filed on January 6th, the IRS didn't start accepting returns until January 12th. You failed to mention whether you filed electronically. Knowing this will make a difference when you receive your refund. |

Oh please, it is Jan. 22.
Is this your first tax return? If you filed directly yourself. Give it 4 to 6 weeks at the very least. The folks at the IRS are not sitting around waiting just to process your return. |

Yes, this is normal. It takes about six to eight weeks to get a refund. You can call the IRS to check on your refund, but I'd wait a few more weeks before bothering to do this. Be patient. It will arrive, .... and just think, the longer it takes, the more it will feel like a gift, especially if you forget about it. |
