babycakes1280 | I got a strange e-mail from the IRS? |
This message was in my email mailbox. When I clicked on the link it went directly to the IRS website. It asked me for my filing status, my social security number, mother's maiden name, debit card number, pin number, along with address, phone number, etc. I have already filed my taxes and received my refund. I find this very odd. Has anyone gotten this email? It goes directly to the IRS website but why would they need my debit card info. The message I got is below:
After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity we have
determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of $2839,49.
Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 3-9 days in order to
process it.
A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons.
For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.
To access your tax refund, please click here
Best Regards,

The IRS NEVER will contact you by e-mail. It's a SCAM. Just delete it. And do NOT click on any links in the e-mail! It may take you to a virus-laden website, but at the very least it will take you to a fake site for identity theft purposes.
And here's a hint: The IRS never copyrights ANYTHING that they produce. Anything purporting to be form the IRS and including a copyright symbol is fake from the start.
And another hint: You didn't put your e-mail address on your tax return, so HOW would the IRS ever know what it was? |

This is a SCAM!!!!!! I recently read about this & I'm thinking it was either in my local newspaper or it was on the www.irs.gov website. The IRS never sends out e-mails to anyone. The e-mail may have looked authentic, but it's not. Do not respond to such Scams in the future. I feel sorry for the vulnerable & naive people who have fallen or will fall for this Scam. What a shame because it's Identity Theft in the works. |
|

Oh no it's Mr. Bill :>)
 |
The IRS will never contact you by email, it is by mail. The email you got is from someone else trying to get your personal information, never ever give out this information like you SS# or any personal information online. I would contact IRS or check out their website at IRS.gov to report the email you got as someone trying to get your information. |

You do not get E-mails from the IRS
you get official letters.
Did you notice that your name was not on the body of the e-mail
This is "PHISHING"
a scam to get your personal banking information and other personal information for Identity Theft.
Report it to your e-mail server
And DO NOT REPLY TO IT.
If you have a printer..Print a copy and then Delete E-mail. |

Now how & why would the IRS contact you via email. Think about it.
They would send you a letter and they would already know your personal information, so why would they ask you for it again?
You think now this is a scam & you should ignore it or report it? |

It wasn't from the IRS - it's a phishing scam. I hope you didn't enter anything at that phony site. |

You were appropriately cautious!!
It's listed on the IRS website as a common fraud, phishing. |

Ms. Angel..

SCAM, everyone knows IRS does not contact you by e-mail. |

Unless they ask for your blood type, mother's maiden name and your favorite ice cream flavor, you can presume it is a fake. I have received similar email at addressess that I have not shared with anybody. |

SCAM. Not only that - you clicked the link and they are trying to phish financial info. I'd check your credit cards and bank account to make sure there's no unauthorized activity. NEVER click links in suspicious emails - always open internet explorer and type in the address direct. If you looked at the address it didn't take you to www.irs.gov. It took you to a dummy site. Forward the entire message without any edits to phishing@irs.gov |
