Liliana G,

You can immediately change you W-4 and Allowances. This will allow you to take home more in your net pay at work.

You will be able to file your 2008 taxes filing as married filing jointly.

Cadillacman
You can begin claiming him as soon as you get married. You say you are married now, so you can claim him now.

I hope this helps you.

Go in peace.

And always remember: -- Jesus loves y ou!!

Sincerely,
Uncle Floyd

You don't claim a spouse as a dependent, but you can file a joint return for 2008 which will most likely lower your taxes. If you are talking about your W-4, you can change it now to married and add an allowance for him - just be sure to change it back if he gets a job.

If he's collecting unemployment, remember that that's taxable income.

Well, you can't claim your spouse on your tax return but you have the option to file as Married Filing Jointly status. The MFJ status gives you more standard deductions and you also get double the personal exemptions, which helps lower your taxable income. Furthermore, the MFJ status tax rate is lower than filing as Single (your tax filing status before you got married). Even if he has no income, you and your spouse are still able to use the MFJ status as long as you are legally married before Dec. 31st.

Your marital status on December 31, 2008 determines your status for the entire year. You will be able to file jointly.

You will be able to file Married Filing Jointly for 2008.

You can file for a new W-4 at work today if you like.

Below is a site from the IRS that will help you figure out what to put for exemptions on the W-4

Congratulations on your marriage!

I hope that helps.
