I had half of our stimulus check direct deposited.. where's the rest?
My wife and I filed as "Married filing jointly", but I received only 600.00 direct deposited to the same account that the tax refund went to. Where's the other half? We both made over 3000.00 and we both have social security numbers.

You probably didn't have sufficient tax liability to get more than $300 each. This is all you are going to get now. IRS is not splitting payments between checks and direct deposits.

If your 2008 income is higher, you may get some additional stimulus credit when you file that return.

You received the minimum payment of $600 because your tax liability was less than $600. Look on your tax return to see what your taxes were after credits.

Next year, since you did not receive the maximum payment, you may qualify for an additional $600 refundable credit based on your 2008 income.

Making over $3000 gets you $300 each, and it sounds like that's what you got. $1200 is the MOST anyone can get, and to get that you have to have paid that much tax for the year. Unless your income for the year was over around $24,000, the $600 is all you are entitled to.

Apparently you didn't read the fine print. As one answerer pointed out, the maximum you can receive filing jointly is $300 per person, a max of $600 for a couple filing jointly. If you made over $3000, you made too much money to get more. After all, you had no expectation of getting $600 free this year, so why are you complaining about wanting more? Sounds more like greed than need.

You make too much money. $600 is all you are going to get. If you read the fine print it says "up to" $600 per person. Most people will only get $300, including you apparently.

Well not everyone gets a full $600, the amount varies. If you made to little it is 300 if you made too much it is done by a percentage! (over 150,000 for a couple) Maybe this is the case in your situation. If you go to the irs website you can type in stimulas rebate calculator, have you tax return handy , and you can enter the numbers and know what you should have recieved!

I'm sure you will receive the other half shortly. Most people WILL get $600 if you filed a W2. People seem to think that if they got tax money back they don't qualify. That is not true. If you have a taxable income, in other words, if there is a number in your fed. tax box on your W2, you will get $600 each. The only people who get $300 are the ones who don't have a taxable income like those who receive social security. I'm amazed at how so many people don't understand this.

A letter should follow, if you don't receive a letter from the IRS within 15 business day (Monday thru Friday)then call IRS at 1-800-829-1040

damonkey92
You didn't make enough to qualify for the 1200. Your tax liability wasn't enough so you got the minimum.

OKAY let me explain this cause some people answered right and some answered wrong. NOT EVERYBODY IS GETTING 600 or 1200. If you go to the IRS website it says UP TO.... They are going to determine how much you get by the amount of taxes you paid. If you go to their website there is a calculator that will state how much you are getting.

Worka
It is possible that your balance will be mailed to you via check within the next few weeks. With all of the "couples issues" it could also be that they are verifying your social security number or applied the balance to unpaid tax bills or something like that.
