The bottom line is, if you made $3,000 you won't have any taxes due. If you don't pay taxes, you don't get a tax rebate.
If you said you earned money, approximately 15% or more WILL be due for personal social security tax (self-employed people pay double the SS tax). So, not only will you not get a rebate on income taxes (because you didn't pay any), you will have to shell out about $500 for social security -- which, by the way -- you will get no credit for, as you have to earn $8,000 in income for any social security payments to count. |

You can't just SAY you had income.
You must provide the forms from the employer that show your income and the taxes you paid. The employer also sends in copies of those forms and what you send and what the employer sends must agree.
How it will affect you next year is difficult to determine. You might be in jail, you might not. If this is the beginning of your criminal career, you are not smart enough to be a good criminal. I suggest you turn over a new leaf.
I see your added note. You can claim the 3,000 for doing yard work and then you can be fined for operating a business without a license and not filing for a 1099 form which allows you to be self employed. People who do 1099 work generally have to file taxes quarterly. I assume there is also a fine for not doing that.
Also, if you don't like our answers, you have the button to delete your ignorant, dishonest question. All we are doing is giving you the correct answer.
I'm quite relaxed. After all, I don't have your problems. I'm just trying to provide you answers to them. |

If you claim $3000 in self-employment income (ie mowing lawns), you would owe $424 in self-employment taxes.
Paying $424 in order to get $300 back doesn't sound like a good investment. |

If you had no income in 2007, you will be ineligible for the rebate, but you may still benefit under the plan.
While the rebate depends on your 2007 status and income, it is actually a rebate toward your 2008 taxes. According to the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, taxes would be cut in 2008 from 10 percent to zero percent on the first $6,000 dollars of taxable income for individual taxpayers.
So if you have taxable income in 2008, you will see a tax cut when you file in 2009. |

sounds like fraud to me!!!!!!!! |
|

SG
 |
Besides the fraudulent aspect, it's a losing proposition. As others have pointed out, you would pay more than the rebate in self-employment taxes. |
|

Judy1
 |
No, you won't get a rebate, you'll just get in trouble with the IRS for filing a fraudulent return. |

Don't lie to the IRS or you'll get 20 years in federal prison. |

wow what are you retarded
if that was the case the whole world would be living off of tax rebates. |

On top of all the "no you won't get any money back," I notice that no one mentioned state taxes. If your state has an income tax, then you will be liable for tax on that too. There's no way to get free cash.
Besides, how old are you? If you are claimed as someone else's dependent, you won't be filing a tax return anyway. |

If you ask that kind of question you should expect to hear relevant, truthful answers. Is that white sparkly stuff on your Frosted Flakes sugar or Crystal Meth? What kind of Crack are you on?? The first answer was the best: Can you say
F-R-A-U-D or F-E-L-O-N-Y or J-A-I-L T-I M-E? Wake UP!! |
|

|
No, you cannot. You need to PROVE that you made that, with a statement of wages from your employer(s), called a W-2. As far as it affecting next year, well, you could be in jail...
Don't commit tax fraud. You'll get caught. |
|

Danny
|
That would be tax fraud. The penalty's would be greater than the gain. |
|

hurleyqtgurlie
|
wow. yes it will DEF. effect you next year, and then 19 years after that. DONT DO IT |
|

Jlynn
 |
if you claim that you earned $3,000 you will have to say from where you received it. since you don't have an employer or any records it would be self employment income. the tax on that money is 15.3% so you will end up paying in $450. then there's the fraud aspect. is it worth it ? |
|

 |
Oh, sure - do it.
Then you can take taxes from people who do work - like me. I'd love to give you my taxes considering I'm single with two dependents.
Awesome. |

ADG
 |
If you didn't work last year, then you wouldn't have a w2 to report so basically your committing fraud. It will catch up with you and then you will be in big trouble.
You should seriously think about this, why do you deserve a tax rebate if you didn't pay taxes? |
|

schlosky_deli
|
If you claim income you didn't make, you may owe money on your return (aside from the fact that it's illegal). Also, the rebate check is just a forward on the 2008 tax return (filed in 2009), it's not free money. |
|

dearluv9900
 |
Wouldn't that be......LYING!!!! Wow I can't believe there are people like you in the world I hope you do it and get caught! |
|

meg420c
 |
You have to have proof (W2) that you made taxable income. The rebate checks that everyone will be receiving is actually 2008 tax return. Your receiving money before you actually earn it. So if you didn't file in 2007 you will not receive any rebate. And for good reason. You DIDN'T work. Fair enough. |

It is a "Tax Rebate". If you paid "No taxes", why should you get a "rebate"? |
|

Wyogal

No, but you will get an AUDIT!!!! |

I do recall someone coming on this board once and saying that they were self employed. Like you mentioned, I think they did house cleaning or something like that.
They filed an income tax return stating their income and it was low enough that they qualified for the Earned Income Credit (which is kind of a handout to needy people).
So, since all the qualifying income came from self employment, the IRS sent them a letter stating that they needed to "prove" that they had made this amount of income.
I hadn't heard of that before the poster came here, but it does make sense when you think about it.
So I imagine if you turn that in as your only source of income, you would have to prove that income before you would get a rebate check. |
|

lefty

yes. you will receive one quarter of ten-per-cent of sweet feck-all. enjoy! |

Don't do it, it is not worth the trouble, I am self employed and I report everything, , But when it comes to the irs im hiding in the closet I dont want jail time or an audit, Don't mess with the goverment, It not good for your health, |
