You can still claim her if all of the following conditions are met
1) She was under the age of 19 (24 if in school full time)
2) she lived with you at least 6 months of the year
3) She did not provide more than 50% of her own support.
If these three conditions are met, you can still claim her as a dependent. |

The 17 year old age limit is imposed on the Child Tax Credit only. If she turned 17 last year, you cannot claim the $1,000 for the Child Tax Credit. |

If she's living with you or away at college - yes, you can claim her.
Maybe what YOU are referring to is a part on your tax form called the "child tax credit" If she is 17 - you can not claim her on that part. that part is $1000 less for you. |

No. As long as she is an dependant or live in your household until the age of 23 or 24, you can claim here as a dependant. Just make sure she knows that so you dont run into any problems with the IRS if she files on her own. |

No, my parents were not able to claim me and I'm 17. |

As long as you're her legal guardian and she's living with you, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to claim her. She's still a child at 17 (even if she doesn't believe that). |

I think as long as you are providing for her, and she is living with you or going to school full time you can claim her, the only thing is...if she has a job..you have to file her stuff at the same time. |

If she is not 19 on 12/31/07 you can claim her. If she is a full time student, you can continue to claim her for a few more years.
If she makes her own money, she will have to file her own tax return. She can file as being claimed as a dependent by another. Usually it is best for the parent to claim the child because they make more money. Split the difference with her if she is upset with not being able to claim herself. |

If you provide over half her support, I would claim her. |
