If you are on CS1, (CSA involved pre March 2003) then its a very complex system. You have been left with so called 'protected' income. You should have more money than that but I am not on that system so I am not certain. I suggest you phone them and ask to explain to you how they arrived at that amount. It could be you have arrears as well which they are wanting you to pay off.
Options are to appeal the re-assessment, change job, or go unemployed yourself when the assessment is £5 a week.
If you are on CS2, then the amounts are 15% of income for 1 child (20% for 2 and 25% for 3 or more). If you are in arrears then they can take upto 40%.
There are a few sites where you can use spreadsheets to work out the amounts on CS1. |

You should appeal the decision as you should not be left without enough money to survie on. Contact your local CAB for assistance with appealing ths decision |

My brother had the same problem, he called and spoke to someone, he explained all the bills he had to pay and got the rate of Child Support he was paying greatly reduced, and also a refund of the huge amount of money they'd taken from him that month that he desperately needed.

Don't know about CSA but if you were unemployed, single, never married and only income was jsa then you would get income support (i.e. housing benefit, reduced costs on many things etc) as well |

The CSA are awful - it never seems fair and they only go after the easy options. Maybe you should become unemployed - thousands do |
