I have a temp job, so do I still pay full tax on my weekly wage? because when i filled out a form on my first day of work i had to tick a separate box if i was a student of have a student loan.

I can't see why all these people are offering you loans, when you have a perfectly good one already!
The box you ticked isn't a tax relief claim against student loans. No such animal, I am afraid. That tells your employer to make deductions for repayment of your student loan if you earn over £15000 per annum. I don't quite know how it all works. After my daughter left uni, she couldn't get a job for 18 months. She was only getting jobseekers, nowhere near the £15000 limit, but she got demands direct from the student loan people.
Presumably this is your first job since 06/04/08. Are you on code 603L, on a cumulative basis? If not, contact tax office, and ask for code number to be issued to employer.

welcome to the real world lol

drbarnum
Yes you still have to pay tax.

LILLY J
yes you still have to pay tax, the fact that you have a student loan is just to see how much you have to repay on your loan

Becky
yep, the tick box is so that they know to deduct even more money from your pay to start paying off your student loan.

bud
you still pay tax if you earn enough to do so, you have to let the tax office know if you have a student loan because they do get it back eventually.

Yes you still have to pay I'm afraid. The minimum you can earn before tax is currently £6035.00 per year.

The box you've ticked means that they will automatically take a student loan deduction direct from your wages, however this is only applicable once you start earning £15,000.00 per year or more.

The amount of student loan taken will depend on how much you earn. If it is around or just over the £15k mark, you can expect the deduction to be approximately £25 per month. Hopefully that doesn't sting too much!

GrantMitchell
Yes if you are working and earn over the personal allowance of £5225 you must pay tax.

I would imagine the loan tick box is so they can take the repayments out of your wages, they will come off automatically.
