Your annual personal allowance allows you to have £5225 of your total income free of tax. If your earnings represent your only source of income this works out at £100.50 per week. You get one 52nd of your personal allowance each week but if you do not begin work until say week 26 of the tax year you will already have accumulated 25 unused weeks. However no one knows until you tell them what you have been doing in the last 25 weeks so you need to advise the tax office which is responsible for your employer's PAYE affairs that this is your first job of the new tax year (which began on 6 April 2007). In the meantime you may suffer some tax if your weekly earnings exceed your weekly allowance but you will get this back through your wage packet when the tax office acts on the information you give them above.

the tax free amount for the period 6th April 2007 to 5th April 2008 is £5225 a year.
if you have just started work, you have approx 6 months left if this tax year, so basically you can earn £200 a week and anything over this amount will be taxed.
you will however pay national insurance on anything over £100 a week.
you tax code should be 522L, however you need to ensure your employers have the right code, I would suggest you ask them for a P46 form to fill out and sent to the Inland Revenue, this will make sure you get the right tax code.
hope this helps

Tax sucks! i just started work and as i didn't have my full bank details in the first 2 weeks i got 6 weeks wages but they've taxed me for 2 weeks anyway so what was the point of working them!!!!!! grrrr! i also got a letter saying i wouldn't be taxed until I'd earned £5000 so why have i been taxed! its outrageous! i hate bums, who have kids at 15 just so they can get a free council house, live on the dole n get everything free when we work hard and pay for them! I'm going to move to Monaco were they don't tax anything!

Best thing to do is go to the inland revenue website via www.direct.gov.uk and look there. It all depends on how much your getting paid. Best thing to do woul dbe ask your HR department at your place at work!

your tax code should be about 127 add an 0 onto the end and it should be £1270 per year before tax devide by 12 is £105 per month
mother sensible
It is about £4000 per annum. If you are a student or someone who has a tax exempt form (between 16 and 18) you can claim the weekly or monthly tax back in April each year from The tax office (Inland Revenue). You will then get it back as a lump sum in the new tax year.
