Typically, they only take money out for student loans that are if default. If you start paying back in monthly payments before you file your returns, then you may get around it. Then again, they may go ahead take some because of your unsatifactory payment history.

My advice, start making an effort to pay it off now. If they do end up taking your returns and applying it towards your loan, count it as a big chunk of your debt paid for free.

Debt comes back to bite you in a$$ constantly, so try to clear as much of it up!! (<-- Personal Experience)

Good Luck!!

If you still owe, they will still take. That's it, they do it. You can't avoid it.

if you don't pay off the student loan, they will continue to intercept your refunds - if you wait more than 3 yrs to file, you lose your refund, so file and pay your loan - if you owe the money, you won't get "it all" back. period. - just go to a tax prepare with your w-2's for those years, etc

If you still owe, they'll still take any refund. And not filing for the last few years, if you had refunds coming, wasn't smart - if you had filed they'd have taken the refund, but at least that much would have been paid on your loan, this way you still owe it.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do when it comes to the gov;t taking your refund and applying it to your student loans. My advice is to file all those 3 past year returns anyway, this way at least you get to pay off some student loans and you will be able to get your money next time.
What type of returns do you have? What type of forms and what deductions do you use if any?

I may not help you with the gov't keeping your money, however if you want I can help you get larger refunds if possible, and help you to pay off the loans faster this way. Let me know.

If your 2004-2006 tax returns have refunds on them, file.
Even if the money is applied to your student loan, it's better than having the refund forfeited to the national debt.

Yes, they took your refund for your student loan and will do so again until you have paid it off. Why do you think you have a right to shirk your responsibility and not pay your debts?

Even if you do your taxes yourself, they will still take the money you owe for your student loan. Can't get away from not paying it.

If your previous refunds were offset to delinquent student loans, you are shooting yourself in the foot by not filing subsequent returns. Refunds will be offset as of the date the returns are processed which for later years are years later than they should have been. You will be charged interest until the offset date so it is in your best interest to file the returns even if you are not going to see the refunds.
