It is definitely a scam. Most of those checks for this type of scam is coming from west African countries such as Nigeria. It is not wise to cash the check nor call the number because that may give them the opportunity to get your phone number and other personal info. I would report it to the police immediately. This type of scam is one of the hardest to track because they move from place to place and they use cyber cafes to get into underground chat rooms where personal information is sold such as ssn, phone numbers, addresses, credit/debit card numbers and bank account numbers. So you shouldn't cash this check because it could come back on you and you would have to pay several fees and it would be feeding this scam. |

Yes, it's a scam.
When you cash the cheque, it'llbounce, but not before it goes to the fake bank they've set up.
They'll have your name, address, bank, account number and your signature - everything the need to steal your identity.
And they'll start taking out mortgages in your name. |

Check this web site. It is a great urban legend debunker or confirmer. Or Google some of the data on the letter and see if you get a hit confirming it is a scam.
If I did not enter the contest I would be very wary.
See the results of my Google search

It is a scam, just like all the other notifications that say you won a big prize in some lottery that you never entered. You can send the check and letter to the police or attorney general if you want to take the time, but under no circumstance should you call the number or cash the check. |

Take this check to the police; they will deal with this. This happened to a person in our family. Do not cash the check. Do not ignore it. Go to the police. If you don't we will never be able to stop these scam artists. |

that's a scam. OK in order to win money you would have to play like lottery that you have heard of before or play like one of those coke or Pepsi games that they do. OK the number to Canada maybe a real number for you to call so they can get your money. you will end up having to pay for something. if you did get a check like that in the mail you need to be letting the police know about it. if your questioning something like that how many other people ain't that smart to even ask they would go ahead and do it since it's money or not. take everything you got to the police. if it sounds to good to be true then it is. I wouldn't even waste my time with that it's junk put it in the shredder after you show it to the cops or they may just keep it. you will be helping alot of older people that fall victim to this stuff very easily. |

ITS A SCAM! DONT put that check any where near your bank account! Somehow they are able to trace the check and they ill drain your account and gather enough info to steal your identity. This is NO JOKE! The same thing happened to my bf. He was afraid of them being able to trace it so he opened up a new account...he got arrested and was interrogated on no end!! |

They'll ask you to cash it and wire them a large percentage of it. One month later your bank will return it as being fake. |
