No. Marriage has had no effect on income tax for very many years.

Not now, everyone has the same tax codes unless they are a certain age. There used to be a married person's tax code but they abolished it a few years ago, and it now only applies if one of the persons in the marriage was born before 5th April 1935

bud
that stopped years ago, theres no married persons tax anymore.

steffi
The marriage allowance was abolished years ago in the UK. That used to give the husband a rebate. Also, when I was married in 1970, the woman got her tax allowance up to the date of marriage, and after that the Wife's Earned Income Allowance was given, but it belonged to the husband. In practice, the wife got a rebate, as she had two sets of tax allowances in the year. Over the years all these financial perks have been eroded, and now we get nothing.

Yes, but only if you were born before 1935 and you're claiming your husbands additional allowance.
Otherwise --NO.

LOL

Not unless you stopped working.

No, it's not a tax rebate.
Instead your tax code changes (meaning you will pay less tax out of your wages). But it's not a rebate.
So yes - you SHOULD inform the tax office so you can save more money.

I should point out that I am in the UK. Haven't got a clue about the situation in the US.

lucy in the sky
HA!!! no. there is a marriage tax. And Obama will increase it.. vote with care.. he is all about upping taxes in EVERY case.
