All a refund means is that you gave the tax man an interest free loan all year.
I know, I'm a killjoy, but that is what you did. I'd rather only get a tiny refund or owe a tiny amount than get a big refund. |

Someone in a previous question had a good analogy of getting a tax refund:
It's like going to the store and buying something that costs $10 and paying with a $50 bill. You tell the store to keep your change for a year. After a year, they mail you a check for the $40 in change they owe you. You get very exicted about this and jump for joy. Sounds kinda silly, no?
A good tax strategy is to OWE $0 and RECEIVE $0 at tax time. An even better strategy is to OWE the IRS the maximum amount before having to pay penalties. That way you're getting an interest free loan from THEM for a year. |

the tax man has owed me money for years, and wont repay it.... cos he says its his cos it wasnt claimed in time..a.r.....e.
At the time it happened i was doing temp work.... and they are the ones that didnt send my claim in... I did push and push for it but ....it may only be £20... but its my money I earnt it not the idiot tax people |
