HMRC have divided you tax free allowance between both your jobs. They have allocated £3160 to your main job, leaving £2065 to your 2nd job. If you earn less than these two amounts at each job, then you wont pay tax and any tax so far paid will be refunded.
There will be a delay while instructions from your main tax office reach the tax office which deals with your 2nd job for the new code to be issued. This will come through in the next few weeks.
Your allowances have NOT been reduced - merely divided so that you make the best use of them between jobs. |

You can apply for a tax rebate at the end of the year. Just show your p60s and you will be refunded |

I am not sure why the tax office has changed your tax code but don't let it worry you.
I think the problem may be that your second employer has not been notified of a tax code for you (for the balance of your personal allowance) so they are obliged to deduct tax at the basic rate. You will be able to reclaim this tax at the end of the tax year. Just make sure you keep all your pay slips, P60s and the like for both jobs as you 'll need them.
I know it's a nuisance but I don't think anyone is being intentionally difficult. The tax people are usually helpful when it comes to refunding overpaid tax. Trying to find a positive side to this, just think what a decent lump-sum you will have coming back to you. |

Firstly your second job, pays you less than minimum wage unless you are under 22yrs old, which is illegal.
Secondly if you have overpaid tax you should receive a rebate from HMRC, shortly after April.
If now you should carry out further investigation, as to why your tax code was reduced. |

Fengirl2 sums it up succinctly, a lot of the other answers are speculation. The matter should be sorted before the end of the tax year on 5th April. How long ago was your code number at your main job amended? You should receive the other code, 206T, within a month. If you don't, chase up to see what is happening. |

Probably because you are on PAYE and have the wrong tax code |

You should contact your tax office. You should not pay tax if you earn less than £5,225 per annum. This sounds like a mistake in your coding has happened.

If you are earning less than the threshold it may be that you initially had an emergency tax code. At the end of the tax year you will get your P60, and any overpaid tax should be returned to you either directly from the tax office, or in your pay packet. |

Im not sure if you can claim exemption unless you're a student, what you can do is keep paying and at the end of each tax year get a rebate, if you earn under 5k - fill in tax return forms at your inland revanue and everything you've paid will be sent back to you in a tasty check. |

Gordon Brown changed the tax before becoming priminister. There is no longer a 10% tax bracket for people on low incomes..now everyone pays 22% no matter what they earn over a set amount. I think the amount is approx £4500.......and yes this stinks. |
