When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. When the government fears the people, there is liberty. It is the job of the IRS to scare people into 'voluntary compliance' so your fear indicates they are doing their job.
They want a return and they want your money. If you are a person required to file, then the best advice is to file as soon as possible. There may be some added charges, but the charges become more painful the longer you wait. They just want compliance and you should not fear a "midnight visit" or criminal charges.
If you want to get into a position where you act on fact rather than fear, you should EDUCATE YOURSELF. Go to Lost Horizons dot com and do a little research. If that scares you, then obviously you are a 'taxpayer' and you will always belong to the system as a U.S. citizen. If, however, you wish to assert your rights as an American Citizen, this website and Hendrickson's book are an excellent place to start. |

You will not get into very much trouble if you file now. Stop being scared and just file your taxes.
At worst you will owe a failure to file penalty plus a little bit of interest. If you delay, and owe taxes, your problems are going to get more serious. |

I did my taxes for 05 and 06 this year. Relax, as long as you dont owe them it isn't a huge deal- but go get it done. PS if you get money back, expect it to take a while longer than if you did it on time. |

If you don't owe them...no problem, Overpayments are ok, and most likely. Worry if you owe then there are penalities and interest on the amount owed. |

get them done ASAP!!!!!!!!!!! I am in the middle of paying them off VERY Expensive penalties and interest. What would have been about $2,700 for taxes is now $5,300. |

Dude, your time would be better served getting your taxes done rather than hanging out on Yahoo. You will have to pay a penalty for late file, but the longer you wait, the worse the penalty will be. You can contact the IRS and set up payments if money is why you haven't filed yet. If you don't take care of it, it will just make you worry more and life is just too short to spend time worrying. |

It is important that you file your taxes if you earned income.
If you filed an extension, you have extra time to complete your return. And even if you didn't file an extension, if you will receive a refund once your tax return is prepared, you will not have any penalties.
You are aware that you haven't prepared your return (I'm sure you realize you're not the only person that hasn't). Go to a CPA or someone you know that can help you prepare your return as soon as possible.
File your return with the IRS and with state where you live. If you owe taxes that you cannot pay, both the IRS and the state tax department will make payment arrangements with you to pay your taxes.
Good Luck. |

You're not in some big trouble. Get your return ready, and file it. If you owe, the "trouble" will be that you'll now owe more money, for interest and penalties, than you would have if you had filed on time. Beyond that, nothing will happen to you.
If you have a refund coming, you'll get it and there won't be any penalty for filing late.
And stay away from Steve Coerper's advice above - follow that long enough and you WILL be in trouble. |

It isn't a big deal. File your tax return. If you owe, then you will pay some penalties and interest. If you have a refund, there is nothing to worry about. |
