I haven't filed my taxes for the 3 years.?
I haven't filed my taxes for the pass 3 years. I know for sure that I would have gotten a return. I was told that you get 3 years to file if you don't owe. Is this true?

2006 was the first year that I had allowances. I would like to file for 04, 05, and 06, but I don't know what forms to use or where to find them. Can someone give me some advice?

Ur %#$%ed, lol. Leave the country and change your name.

First, you can get the forms for the previous years from the IRS website. You don't need any special forms. Just look under forms and then under previous tax years. Here is a link:

http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/article/0,,id=98339,00.html

As long as you have the paperwork, you should be able to file your own tax returns. If you don't have the required paperwork like W-2's, you will have to get copies of them from your employer(s), bank(s), etc.

You don't need a professional for this unless you are unwilling or unable to file them yourself.

The same is true for filing your state taxes as well.

I would use a professional tax preparer for this one. Filing for previous years is a little more complex than this forum can handle. A professional can probably get more back for you if you have overpaid though payroll deductions.
Good luck! And do your taxes every year from now on:)

You can find the forms and instructions at irs.gov, first go to forms and publications, then to prior years. Be sure to use the forms and instructions for the year you are filing for - rules and numbers change every year.

If you have a refund coming for the overdue years, then you'll get it back to 2003 and there won't be a penalty for late filing. You can claim refunds for 3 years after the original filing deadline, so you can only get the 2003 refund if you file by 4/15/07. You have another year for 2004, longer for 05 and 06, but might as well get it done asap.

The IRS website has the forms, however to possibly avoid an audit in the future when you have more allowances you may want to hire a tax preparer.
