fullofquestionsandan... | I haven't filed my taxes since 2004 ? |
I haven't filed my taxes since 2004. I always got a w-2 but I never had to pay into it. I always got a refund back. I never made over 3,000 dollars in any of those years. My boyfriend always claims me because I live with him. Should I file this year? I made less than 3,000 dollars or should I just let him claim me again? Would it hold up our taxes if I filed mine? We have 3 dependants but he claims them as well. I'm lost in this area and don't know what to do. Additional Details I just didn't want to get into any trouble for NOT filing my taxes. |

With $3,000 income you are not required to file. If you have a refund and want the money, you will have to file. Your choice. |

From your information, you were not required to file with wages of $3,000 or so. Your bf can claim you if you live with him all year and he supports you.
However, you can still file and not claim yourself. You will get a refund of any taxes taken out of your pay. So if your W-2's show anything in box 2 for federal withholding, file those returns for 2005, 2006, and 2007 and get that money refunded. Same for the state tax return if there is anything in the box 17 of the W-2.
It is too late to file for 2004 and receive a refund.
Filing your own tax return will not hold up bf's tax return, just don't claim yourself. |

If you are a dependent you can still file for a refund of taxes paid and he can still claim you. Check on the form you are a dependent. |

It seems like you would get more money if he claimed you and the 3 kids. If you made less than 3K you are not paying that much tax, so you can't get that much back. |

If your income is $3000 (wages income) you are not required to file even if you are a dependent. You should file if you have a refund. |

If you made under $3000 a year, you weren't required to file, but probably gave up a refund by not filing.
You can file and get your refund, and if your income is that low, your boyfriend can still claim you if you meet all the other requirements for him to claim you. |

Its me bitches!!

Your boyfriend should report your income on his taxes since he's claiming you. Boyfriend is probably better off claiming you and getting an additional standard deduction if you're earning less than 3K. When you file taxes for the first time after not filing for a while, the IRS might question you about why you didn't file before and sometimes they'll send you a bill for what they think you should have paid based on the W-2 information they have in their database, but again 3K means you probably owe nothing. If you've been claimed as a dependent, and if your W-2 income was reported by the person claiming you, everything should be fine. |
