I haven't filed my taxes the last 2 years, am I in trouble? I know they owe me a refund!?

Rob
No your are not in trouble.
If you need your income information for the missing years
Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040, they can provide you with transcripts of your W2 information and have it mailed to you in 7 to 10 days, or by fax if you have access to a fax machine. If you need an actual photo copy of the W2's you would need to complete form 4506 and send that along with a check for 39.00 to the service center where you filed, it will take 60 days to process your request

If you need the forms for the missing years you can obtain them here http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/article/0,,id=98339,00.html

If you're due a refund, then no.

Penalties are based on the amount you owe. So if you're getting a refund - they won't care if you NEVER file for it - they'll get to keep it!

P.S. You have three years from the original filing deadline to request your refund - delay too long, and you'll be out of luck.

If they owe you a refund, you're not in trouble and won't even owe any penalties, but file as soon as possible so yu can get your refund. After three years, refunds are lost.

vegas_iwish
Also in vegas ;) Not in trouble if a refund but don't get 3 yrs behind or will start losing refunds owed. Why not just do it? I work at a tax office in vegas at 1206 Maryland Parkway.

irongrama
You won't be in any trouble. Just file the returns, you will get your refunds plus interest. Do file them though. You lose your refund after 3 years from the original due date ie for the year 2005, you will not be entitled to a refund after 4/15/09.

Depends on how much you made annually for those years and how old you are, under $14,000 and you shouldn't be red flaged but...you may want to go back and file, it could get you into trouble one day. Call Michael Rossburg..he's the tax guy from the radio.

Get some help and file amended returns right away. The longer you wait, the higher the penalty. Even if you cannot pay what you owe, filing is the right thing to do.

crzyaltego
no you can still file and pay the penalties- I suggest you talk to a tax preparer(HR Block) and get everything straightened out. If you keep letting it go then you will run into real problems down the line. you may even still get a refund to cover the costs of getting them done and some extra for spending. good luck.

J.
If you have had a job yes you should be introuble. YOu would be oweing them money for disobeying the law, they would not owe you jack. I really wouldnt come online and talk about how you are not following the law, espically with somthing like this.
