Apples | I havent done my Business Taxs in 2 years....? |
... and Just recently got a letter saying if i dont do them by the 24th of oct. They will send me an estimate of how much they think I owe and add penalties. I have allof my receipts just stuff in a huge envelope. And i havent writen anything down as cash in and cash out. So my questions are:
How much would an account charge me for doing my taxes, and just handing him all of my receipts and have him write it out for me? (do they even do that?)
Also any idea how much an estimate on how much I owe could be if I just let me give me an estimate?
-PS I dont have a clue what i'm doing I had an accountant set it all up for me and since he has disappeared and hasnt answered any of my calls for help so here I am :(.... any help or ideas of what i can do? I know I have to pay them...just wondering how much its going to run me Additional Details I was the only person working in the company. I it was graphic desgn company. I did work for acouple of stores and such , websites, logos, etc. didnt havent any insurence or medical on it. I think it was set up as an S-Corp or C-Corp not sure |

Good luck in trying to make IRS do your taxes. It is your duty to do your taxes, not the IRS
You better start educating yourself about bookkeeping or find a new accountant to help you sort through the receipts. You don't want to wait for IRS to give you an estimate of how much you owe |

Sit down and figure up all of your receipts and categorize them. Figure mileage. Figure what you had come in to the business in revenue. You may not even hardly owe anything (if at all). So calm down, take a deep breathe, and start doing your math. As for an accountant, you would be looking at quite a bit if you don't do your own homework. |

Plan on paying for a tax attorney and a CPA. |

The best thing to do is to contact an accountant in your area. The AICPA may be able to assist you with your search. Below is the link. Or go to www.aicpa.org.

or
www.gparisjohnson.com, they can help or guide you.

Prepare yourself. Your about to spend some money. The IRS will take your last return, factor in inflation and some estimated growth in your business and begin to add interest and penalties to that inflated number.
If you start at a CPA with your "receipts in an envelope" bookkeeping system you will spend a small fortune. Find a local bookkeeping service. Let them dig through your receipts and set up a set of books. Then take their results to the CPA.
In your case I would suggest a CPA that is also an attorney. |

You don't state what you mean by business taxes. If you are writing about employment taxes, IRS will do its best estimate of the wages you paid, perhaps by getting copies of state employment tax returns, they estimating income tax at 20% and adding that to Social Security and Medicare Taxes. The result will probably be a lot more than your really owe. What an accountant would charge to prepare the returns depends on how much work there is. Do you have a lot of employees or a few. Whatever it is, getting the returns done by you is better than having them done by IRS. You are also going to have to deal with any balance that is due after you file

First you need to find a good CPA. No one can tell you what you will owe without looking at your numbers.
If you have a set of books any CPA should be able to do it, but if you have no books and he has to look at all kinds of receipts, etc., then he has to, in effect, create your books in order to do the return.
Preparing a Schedule C for a business doesn't take long, but assembling the information can take a lot of time.
A good CPA charges a fairly high fee compared to what some Tax Shack might charge, but not everyone who claims they can prepare taxes knows what they are doing. |
