I heard h&r block can get your w2's online somehow, and that you don't need to bring them in. Is that true?

It's Me
They don't get your W-2's. They make their best guess based on your last pay stub. They don't really get your final taxes down until you actually get your W-2. It's just a way for them to make money earlier, and it gets people there to get their money earlier as well.

They'll give you a "refund anticipation loan" based on your final pay stub. You still need your W2s to actually file.

kimmatt66
Take your last paystub and they will give you a loan agianst your refund...when you get w2 you have to go back and they file your return and you repay loan..you may get only a portion of your antyicipated return

I'm not sure about H&R Block but, I work for Jackson Hewitt and we have this product called the money now loan and what it is is a loan from our bank on your tax return. Then when you recieve you'r W-2 you bring it in and then we file your return with the IRS and you recieve the rest of your money within 24 hours after you bring your W-2 in. Good Luck

Yes, as will a number of tax prep software also has the same capability. Of course, not all employers submit their W2s in a method that allows this to be done for everyone.

Culture Warrior
This is true to some extent.

However, most employers with fewer than 250 employees do not spend the capital cost to by this software.

Your W-2 has to be post marked no later than January 31st. per IRA codes.

Don't use H&R Block. They charge way to much.

heard same thing. I do not think that should be legal. anyone could find out private info on you. I did think that you need your last pay stub though!!

Commercials say you can bring your last pay stub. However, I would NEVER go to H&R Block. Their tax preparers don't know what they are doing.
