You will need to file an amended tax return. This can be a lot of paperwork, but it's easy enough if you take it step-by-step.
First, you need to prepare a new Form 1040. (Regardless of which tax form you originally used, such as 1040EZ or 1040A.) The new Form 1040 needs to report **ALL** your income and deductions correctly. And the income needs to be your entire total -- all W2s from all jobs.
This new, corrected, and complete Form 1040 then is compared to your original return. The differences between the two (original and corrected) are reported on Form 1040X. Finally, the the additional tax or refund is reported, and you either mail in a check or wait from an extra refund check.
Amendments take extra long to process, and they CANNOT be e-filed. You will need to mail it in. And wait 3-4 months for your extra refund check.
PLEASE make a photocopy of all tax returns BEFORE mailing them in.
I provide additional tips for amending tax returns and filing Form 1040X in the article below.

I would confirm by calling the IRS, but if you are talking about your 2005 tax return, you don't have to file an amended return. You simply need to send an updated (make sure it's right this time) tax return to the government and they will update the numbers. If this is for 2004 or prior, then yes, you have to file an amended return. Again, I would confirm with the IRS, but this is common practice...not many people know about it apparently. |

federal law only requires w-2 forms to be postmarked by midnight on jan 31. you should wait until a couple of days after this to file your taxes unless you are absolutely positive you have all of your forms.
if you are unsure, wait until mid feb. to file. in most cases, you would still get a return pretty quickly. |

You can add to it. Just take it to your tax people and tell them you need to make an amendment on your taxes and they'll add it on. |

Having grown up with family who was working as tax professionals for both state and federal governments, it is my understanding that this is a common occurance. By simply filing an amended return you will be on track and legal. No Sweat. Good Luck~! |
