I got married in November, yes, you should change your tax info. It'$ to your advantage. |

If you are both working, you'd be wise to leave your W-4 as it is unless you've been getting huge refunds. You could change "single" to "married" or "married, but withhold at the higher single rate" but there's no hurry to do that.
Now that you're married, your filing choices are a joint return, or each of you filing with the status "married filing separately". A joint return will almost always end up with the two of you paying the least tax in total.
When you file, use whatever name is on your social security card. If you intend to take his last name but haven't changed it yet with social security when you file, use your former name on your tax return - if the name doesn't match the ss file, an efile will bounce. |

At this late date, the year is almost over, no need to hurry. Before your first pay check in 2008, complete a new W-4 to reflect your married status. It should have no significant impact upon your 2007 return |

no you wont have to change it for the year that you got married taxes, but you will have to change it for 2008's taxes. |

Hi,
We don't really do tax "returns" in the UK, but to keep the Treasury happy, my wife fills in a simple form to say that she now uses my surname on accounts, and all somehow, it all sorts itself out.
I do the VAT (Value Added Tax) form, for my little home & boat based electrical design company, which is fine and honest, and my wife just makes & sells fantastic metallic sculptures, of which the taxman is in ignorance of.
The connection is that one of her creations was knocked of our narrowboat roof, so we claimed insurance and tax releif.

What State do you live in? |

It will depend on the data on the certificate. The date that it shows that you were married. But in reality, you can file seperate still for the rest of this year but state you married status as of the filing date. If filled seperate married or unmarried should make no difference. |

You can file as married filing separately. You will have to ask your employer if you need to re-do your W-2, but I think you do. |
