Try it both ways and see what comes out better.
I had thought that even if you file married, separate that it still doesn't change anything.

It could depend on your state. Some states have different State Income taxes rates for married couples (my state doesn't even have income tax). It might be worth spending $50 to take your issue to a tax service to know for sure.

I believe you will do better by filing jointly.

Go to the HR Block website. There is a tax calculator you can use to see how the filing would turn out best. Run each scenario and then decide. Also would be good to just ask your tax professional. Either way is legal and their job is to get you the best return so they can also run it both ways for you.

Filing joint will almost surely save you money. You could figure it both ways to be sure.

You two together make enough money to live well and also plan for the future. I would advise you to find a good financial adviser and start preparing for your future. he will help you decide on what is best for you and why.

Ask around to your friends and also your banker to find an adviser.

TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your husband filing seperate would be penalized in a way for making so much and not having any exemptions. Together you would get a marriage credit. Also if either of you are paying back student loans, had any training or education classes last year, currently in school, have to buy clothes for work(retail people),uniforms,rx fees, all medical bills, even mileage to and from doctors or school all are all tax deductible and makes a huge difference in income tax returns. Is anyone like a sibling or even a non-relative living with you and attendng school, you can claim $50 per month for every month they live with you.

*None of these deductions would be avalible to you filing seperatly.

*This is the exemption difference :$4,850 for single filers and $9,700 for married filing joint.

*Always remember single and seperate middle income(your husband) are taxed the heaviest.

MOST IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE AS A MARRIED WOMAN WITH A SMALLER INCOME THAT YOUR HUSBAND DOESN'T HAVE ANY HIDDEN OR SECRET UNPAID DEBTS I.E. "CHILD SUPPORT,STUDENT LOANS IN DEFAULT, BACK TAXES" BECAUSE YOU WILL BE FORCED TO PAY THOSE DEBTS AS WELL AUTOMATICALLY TAKEN FORM YOUR PAY CHECK OR BANK ACCT. MAKE SURE HE'S NOT ASKING YOU TO FILE SEPERATELY TO HIDE THIS FROM YOU.(Not trying to scare you or create doubt, but this is more common then you would believe and the truth isn't always nice)

Here are some simple non-jargon links with current tax info.
Remember the the main goal is "NOT To OWE" if you get a return great, but as long as you don't owe uncle Sam.

G'luck ,be smart, and take your time to file you have until April. Collect as much info and deductibles as you can so you can get a huge return. Happy New Year

Definitely file together. Filing Married filing separately is the most expensive thing you could possibly do. The taxes are much higher if you file this way. Just so you know, if he claims you on his tax return, you will not be able to take the standard deduction. Like I said, this is not a good idea.

brian.lary
You definitely need to file married. This will give you the best results...I promise. Married filing seperate eliminates almost every benefit possible. You should consult with a tax professional...don't ever do your taxes yourself.

prettysexycalves
if i were you i would call around and ask several tax preparers. oh go to the library and see the new tax laws. dont call irs or hr block.

Until you own property together or have a child, I would file separately. Just my opinion. No true benefits to filing jointly at this time.

go to jackson hewitt or h and r black they will tell you weather its benificial for you to file married filing joint or married filing seperate. If there are children you would get money back for having a dependant and childcare.
