I just lost a hundred bucks at online poker, can I write that off on my taxes???
I just lost a hundred bucks at online poker, can I write that off on my taxes??? Or any other gambling expense??

HIPPIE HUNTER
i would lol

pikaberrygrl
No, gambling losses are deductible to the extent of gambling winnings and are treated only as an itemized deduction.

Lancez
No you cannot

Judy1
No. If you have gambling winnings for the year, you have to report them as other income - then if you itemize you can deduct gambling losses but only up to the amount of the winnings.

MadMama
Yeah you could try....but don't think it'll do anything but cause you to get audited.

Gumms Dumps
you should write , by the way , where do u play , i wanna try

i thought online poker gambling was illegal now?

? ?
Actually you can deduct any gambling losses you so can write off the hundred bucks........

The problem is that you can only write it off to the extent you have gambling winnings (which you have to report as income - dont forget).

I.e. if you won 400 and lost 300 you can write off the 300

if you won 100 and lost 300 you can only write off 100

I guess it depends how you can prove that you spent it. Did you get it out of an ATM? If you did you would have got a receipt.

There is no such thing as a gambling expense. If you have your own business you could possibly just add in $100.00 somewhere to get benefits from the monies you lost - but I think you are most likely out of luck!!!!

yes let them send you a receipt

LMAO... NO..... but you can get a portion of the rake you paid if you played ring games. go to www.rakeback.com to get a percentage of the rake you payed when you played. But out of a hundred dollars your rakeback would only be around 15 cents... good luck in the future. Try PKR.com its a great site to play. Very realistic

short_name94
i would think not

Tushar
Hahah.. Unlucky.. =( Unfortunately not.

kathykoul
Gambling losses are only deductible up to the amount of gambling gain. So if you win 500 and have 1000 of losses you only get 500 for the losses.

Dani
No, be that a lesson learned

.♥.when will it rain

Sure, as long as it was a business expense. Are you studying the effects of gambling, or the potential amount of money you can make/lose per year lol.
