I just moved into a flat and wonderin what I do about coincil tax. do I just get in contact wiv local council?

It is your responsibility to get in touch with your local council to start paying as soon as possible. They will not come to you, how would they know where you have moved in to? If you don't contact them, you will still be liable to pay any charges from the date you moved in, so best to contact them asap to start paying monthly or you will end up with an arrears amount to pay off aswell when you finally get round to letting them know.

It is also your responsibility to get a tv license, you can do this online and find out lots more info about them on their website. Again, if you get caught (which is most likely these days) you will have a hefty fine to pay possibly arrears aswell, so get that sorted asap too.

Best to call the council, they will probably get in touch with you anyway but its best to start paying straight away as they know your moving date and will make you pay from that date anyway. You can get TV licence details from here: www.tvlicensing.co.uk

I would call the council, let them know I think if you are the only adult at the address you get a discount. They will probably get in touch but it will be better if you let them know your circumstances. As for your TV licence I'd phone asap! You can pay it by direct debit which makes it easier. They will spread it across the year giving you monthly payments. I think i pay about £11.47 per month.

Yes, go down to your local council office and discuss it with them there or ask your housing manager (if you have one).

Contact your local councils revenues/benefits department.

If you are in receipt of a low income or an income based benefit you may be entitled to some help with the cost of this

Make some time to get round to you local council office, many have forms on line now, so you can fill out the council tax form and post it in to them.

You can go to the post office or on line for the TV licence.

Contact your council, if you are a single occupant of the flat you should get a discount. You can arrange a payment scheme for your tv licence & spread the cost or you can just buy outright. Your choice.Get details at www.tvlicensing.co.uk

Don't worry they will soon be in touch with you.

Call or go into your local council, and do it ASAP as they are great at slapping other things on your bill and adding amounts to cover backpay! Also ring TV license people you can set it all up over phone so it's great! Call the utility companies as well and set up a D/D plan so you dont get hit with big bills and only X amount of days to pay them!
