Yes, postmarked by midnight is ok. I live in a town of 250,000 and the main post office will have people on both sides of the street taking tax mail ( domino's pizza always comes and passes out hot pieces of pizza too ), and all the mail is postmarked by midnight even if it is a few minutes past that time.
You can also file for an extension by midnight and you do not have to finalize your paperwork until October ( but they want tax payment with the extension ). |

Huh?

Several post offices are staying open until midnight so last minute filers can get the needed post mark. If you are not going to be able to file before then, at least file an extension form. If you owe money make an estimated payment so that you avoid interest. |

Um NO you will have to take it to a special post office that is staying open til midnight. Just putting it in a box won't do it, because it won't be postmarked til the next day! |

They must be postmarked by midnight, April 15. Which means you can't just drop them in a mail box. You must take them to the post office to make sure it is postmarked. Many post offices are open late today just for that reason. Check www.usps.com to find out which post offices near you are having late hours. |

They need to be post marked TODAY. If you put in the mailbox at midnight, it will be post marked tomorrow, so yes. File for an extension. |

POSTMARKED midnight, you can't just drop them in a mailbox at that point. What if the pickup doesn't come in time? Can you file online at www.irs.gov? |

Where I live there are mail employees standing on the street collecting them that will make sure they're postmarked today as long as they're there by midnight. |

No. They need to be post marked with today's date. You will need to take them into the post office to be sure they get marked with April 15. If you drop them in a box they might not get picked up until tmw.
Best to check what time your post office will be close today. Ours closes at 5pm normally but is staying open until 6 today.
Good luck and Get Moving sweetie! |

They just have to be postmarked by midnight tonight. But i'm not sure if that's possible so to be safe by 5 o'clock -when they usually pick up the blue mail box mail! But i'm guessing you wont get a penalty fee if it's sent by tonight at midnight |

You'd need to check the time that the mail in that box is picked up to get today's post mark. |

As long as its post marked for April 15th, you shouldn't have any problems |

get them in the mail before midnight tonight. You've had your receipts since the end of January. Why would you be standing in line to mail them that late anyway? It's not like you're a millionnaire and have to hire a CPA to itemize and list all the properties you own and figure the tax on them or something. |
