Don't pay what you cant afford, but always offer payments in writing and keep copies of any letters sent and received. If they won't accept your offer ignore them, after a few tries they will send the debt back to the council. The council will give you one last chance to pay before they take you to court, offer them the same payment and as long as you keep to it they won't take any further action. If it goes to court, the judge will ask why you haven't paid, present the letters stating any offers you made and this will show you haven't deliberatily not paid. The judge will issue you with a payemnt plan of an amount you can afford and that will be the end of it. |

Borrow, beg or steal - but you need to pay the bailiffs - the situation will only get worse and they are not generally nice people. |

Contact the Council tax directly, they should be more agreeable to a repayment plan that sees them get money even if it takes longer. Bailiffs will try to force the issue and have repayment as quickly as possible, yet have little standing in these situations because if you were taken to court and offered £50 a month to repay the debt they would in all likelihood accept this. Courts need to the debt cleared but will allow you to do so in your own time if it is a reasonable period. |

First, see a solicitor or CAB.
Contact the council with a financial breakdown of what you can realistically afford. DON'T be tempted to offer more than you can keep paying, you will only end up in a bigger mess.
Contact the CCCS - www.cccs.co.uk or 0800 138 1111. Do this NOW. They will help you with the FB and can liaise with the creditors.
Inform the bailiffs in writing that you are dealing with both the creditors and a financial advisor in order to pay off your debt.
Make sure you do everything in writing and keep copies of all letters. |

Stick to what you can reasonably afford, but you really need to pay this bill ASAP. Gas, electricity, water and phone bills can wait, they are slower to prosecute and chase up late payments, so concentrate on paying your council tax, rent and credit cards if you have them, all other debts are less expensive and do not acheive as big a penalty for non payment. |

Bailiffs are truly horrendous people, go direct to the Council and speak to them, they can call off these scum if you deal with them direct!
Been there.... |

Yell them you cannot afford £200/month, you will end up on the street and starving!! They cannot allow this to happen.
Speak to the Citizens Advice Bureau and they will take you through it |

they cant actually do anything!! u have offered to pay a sum of money & they have rejected it! get legal advice from citezins advice but i do kno that if it went to court they would have to accept your offer of £50per month. dont allow them access to the property either! |

Plead insolvency, there are many companies in the UK dealing in insolvencies. I used one from scotland and they reduced my bill to ONE POUND PER MONTH. They are known as SPECTRUM. |
